Mountain environment and climate change
Details
The work explores several types of environmental change in the Pamir-Alai mountainous region (Central Asia)through the indirect observations. The paper assesses three geographic areas: the Kuhistoni Matcha, the Fan Mountains and the Lenin Peak, which have been selected among the most popular touristic sites with sufficient availability of and access to the written records of indirect observations. The research focuses on glacier melting and lakes water level fluctuations. The results of the research confirm that indirect evidence of environmental change in the Pamir-Alai mountains as reported by observers is well consistent with the results and trends based on the systematic instrumental observations and purposeful data collection.
