MTV is a music and general entertainment channel. It first broadcast in the UK and the rest of Europe on August 1, 1987 as MTV Europe. On July 1, 1997 as part of a localization of MTV channels in Europe. MTV Networks Europe launched MTV UK & Ireland. In 2007 the channel was rebranded as MTV One. On July 1, 2009 MTV One was rebranded to MTV. This version of MTV is aimed at audiences in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The channel is in over 10 million homes in the UK and Ireland.
