Schmitt's works is the dialogue between East and West as two paradigms of civilizations, the difference of mentalities of which both the leader of French romanticism V.Hugo and our contemporary E.-E. Schmitt try to reconcile and find common points for mutual understanding. The study of the works of both Hugo and Schmitt is productive both in the general humanistic plan and in the narrow - historical-literary, literary studies. The monograph considers the following aspects: the problems of interaction between the literature and culture of the West and the East, their mutual recognition and mutual influence. Appeal to the work of two bright representatives of French literature - V. Hugo and E.-E. Hugo and E.-E.
