This book is the first monograph on one of the least studied and most controversial European Union citizenship rights. It offers a comparative analysis of the provision of consular protection in the 28 EU Member States as well as of the respective international law and EU rules.

Eva-Maria Poptcheva holds a PhD in European Constitutional Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (Spain). She worked as a lecturer and research fellow in European Union Law and Constitutional Law at the same university, before joining the European Parliamentary Research Service, where she currently works in the field of constitutional affairs. She has participated in several international conferences and is the author of a number of journal articles and book chapters, in English, Spanish and German, about EU citizenship, fundamental rights and parliamentarism.
