Multilingualism & Challenges in French Language Teaching, Translation

Multilingualism remains one of the peculiar characteristics of African societies where linguists have found it impossible to effectively determine the number of languages due to the absence of accurate statistics and difficulties in differentiating between languages and dialects. In Nigeria, the number of languages is estimated at above 300. The linguistic situation in Nigeria is a fertile ground for serious academic research most especially foreign language teachers and people interested in issues such as "cross linguistic" phenomenon, linguistic interference, etc.This probably explains the major motivation for establishing Multilingual Studies Group, Nigeria as a forum for in-depth studies and analysis of challenges confronting the teaching and learning of foreign languages in Nigeria with particular reference to French language. Multilingualism& Challenges in French Language Teaching, Translation and Comparative Language studies is the Second publication of the Multilingual Studies Group, the first being the Collection of Proverbs and idiomatic expressions. This 8-chapter book is a compendium of well researched, peer reviewed articles on translation, linguistics and verbal arts.

Mufutau Tijani is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics/ French Language at ABU, Zaria, Nigeria. He obtained his PhD from Université de Franche-Comté, Besançon, France. Nnenna NWOSU is currently a Senior Lecturer of French/Linguistics at FUNAI, Nigeria and holds a PhD from Université de Strasbourg, France.
