Multinational companies today represent the most advanced economic organizations within the international economic system and are unquestionably leading actors in international relations. These companies expansion is mainly through subsidiaries, in some cases however, it is carried out through manufacturing licensed to local firms or directly or indirectly through international and intra-firm trade. Whether in developed or developing countries, the presence of these companies is already worldwide. Under state protection and operating with the aid of international financial institutions, multinational companies expand their presence. With an essentially geo-economic strategy, multinationals expand, strengthen through Joint Ventures or merge and manage to "go global".

Dr. Juan Carlos Gachúz is a full time professor and postgraduate director at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, campus Puebla. He holds a BA and an MA in International Relations from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and an MA and a PhD in Government from the University of Essex, England. He is member of the CONACYT SNI level 1.
