Municipal Solid Waste Management

Amidst rapid urbanisation and associated sanitation challenges majority of the global South cities are embracing non-state actors led direct service provision. However, sanitation challenge continues to linger coupled with mixed outcomes from the said shift in the service provision role. This publication draws from fieldwork that employed purely qualitative approach in exploring involvement of the private companies and Community-Based Organisations in household solid waste management. Further, the book expounds and map stakehodlers'inherent diversity and dynamism, explores solid waste privatisation, and core impediments to waste management. This is an ideal book for policy and decision makers in the global South cities as critical policy issues are discussed. It is also ideal to other researchers, general public, and institutions with interests in the integration of the so-called formal non-state actors in solid waste management.

Edward Ezekiel attained his BA in Geography and Environmental Studies from University of Dar es Salaam. He then joined a sandwich MA degree in Urban Development and Urban Challenges in East Africa at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Addis Ababa University. He has been researching in urban geography, environment and sanitation.
