Mycoplasma synoviae in commercial layer chicken

Mycoplasma synoviae is becoming more and more widespread problem in commercial chicken especially in layers and broiler breeders. Mycoplasma synoviae strains with oviduct tropism which can able to induce Eggshell Apex Abnormalities (EAA) have been increasingly recorded from the year 2000 onwards. This study mainly focused on seroprevalence of Mycoplasma synoviae infection in different age group among layers, isolation, identification and molecular characterization of Mycoplasma synoviae from suspected layer chicken, histopathological examination of different portions of Mycoplasma synoviae affected oviduct, an evaluation of egg shell quality parameters in Eggshell apex abnormalities eggs in comparison with normal eggs and an attempt to develop suitable serodiagnostic tool for screening of Mycoplasma synoviae antibodies by using regional isolates. This study is useful to the researchers and poultry farmers in understanding occurrence, diagnosis and severity of Mycoplasma synoviae infection in commercial layer chicken.
