Myth and Mythography in Contemporary African Drama
Details
Previous works regarded myths as stories paying little attention to dramatic myth and mythography as effective in the African life. Pre-encoded solutions in generationally transmitted mythologies were dumped in the modern troubled world. This work situates dramatic mythic symbols in African lives showing linkages to realities while employing Carl Jung's archetype's universal symbols of human experiences. Collective unconscious pools human experiences into realities with codifications impacting life. Within the African life, rituals, marriages, initiations, births and deaths are life's symbolic-mythographic encryptions. Characters become heroes through the death of the self. Man's reliance on the spiritual is demystified as he fights the establishment. Findings encourage discarding outdated mythic ideas, rites and beliefs. Secular and spiritual solutions hidden in African texts through mythic encoding prevent sociological eruptions.
