Nasoalveolar Moulding

Orofacial clefts such as cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital anomalies. This leads to malformation of the upper lip, nose and alveolar process and results in functional disabilities. The appropriate timing and order of specific cleft-related care are important factors for optimizing outcomes.Nasoalveolar moulding is used effectively to reshape the nasal cartilage and mould maxillary arch before cleft lip repair. It provides aesthetic, functional benefits of nasal tip, alar symmetry and improved dental arch form. This enables the surgeon and the patient to enjoy the benefits associated with repair of a cleft deformity that is minimal in severity.The role of a Pediatric Dentist is essential in identifying the type of cleft and management of the cleft patient.
