Members of the NKFD in 1943, from the left: Col. van Hooven, Lt. Graf Einsiedel, Maj. Hetz, Gen. von Seydlitz, Prv. Zippel, Erich Weinert, Col. Steidle, Gen. Lattmann [3] The rise of the Nazi Party to power in Germany in 1933 led to the outlawing of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and the persecutions against its members, many of whom fled to the Soviet Union.
