The National Union of Angolan Workers (UNTA) is a national Trade union centre of Angola. The UNTA was organized first in the Belgian Congo, in the 1950s, and moved to Angola after independence in 1975. It is led by Manuel Viage as general secretary. The UNTA is closely linked to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA). A trade union (British English) or labor union (American English) is an organization of workers that have banded together to achieve common goals such as better working conditions. The trade union, through its leadership, bargains with the employer on behalf of union members (rank and file members) and negotiates labour contracts (collective bargaining) with employers.
