Native American tribes in the U.S. state of Nebraska have a history that ranges several thousands of years before present. More than 15 tribes have been identified as having lived in, hunted in, or otherwise occupied territory within the current state boundaries. While the history of the state includes eight reservations, including a half-breed tract, today only six tribes have reservations in Nebraska. In 2006 American Indian and Alaska Native persons comprised one percent of the state''s population. The Arapaho lived for more than a thousand years throughout the western part of Nebraska. In a prehistoric period; Nebraska was home to the Arikara; after 1823 they returned to live with the Skidi Pawnee for 2 years. The eastern range of the Cheyenne included western Nebraska, after the Comanche lived in the area before moving south towards Texas.
