Natural Gas, Renewable Methan and E-Fuels for Powertrains
Details
This book focuses on natural gas, renewable Methan and E-Fuels as contemporary and future energy sources.Following a historical overview, physical and chemical properties, occurance, extraction, transportation and storage of natural gas and renewable methan are discussed. The actual situation of eletrical produced fuels (E-Fuels) is presented by a FVV-Report (German Research Association for Combustion Engines).A substantial part of the book addresses the design of engine and vehicals for natural and synthetic methan as well as large combustion engines for industrial and maritime use.The improvements of a Dual Fuel Combustion are shown in an own chapter. The mixture of natural gas and hydrogen are discussed too.

Dr.-Ing. E.h. Richard van Basshuysen was Head of Development for the comfort class vehicles and for engine and transmission development at Audi. He was also the editor of ATZ and MTZ . In 2000, he was awarded the prestigious Ernst Blickle Prize, and in 2001, he received the Benz-Daimler-Maybach Medal of Honor from the VDI (Association of German Engineers) for the introduction of the passenger car diesel engine with direct injection into series production. In 2004, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Magdeburg in recognition of his life's work. Dr.-Ing. E.h. Richard van Basshuysen passed away in the summer of 2020.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rudolf Flierl taught at the Chair of Internal Combustion Engines at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern after many years of industrial experience as an engine developer at BMW.
Klappentext
This book focuses on natural gas and synthetic methane as contemporary and future energy sources. Following a historical overview, physical and chemical properties, occurrence, extraction, transportation and storage of natural gas are discussed. Sustainable production of natural gas and methane as well as production and storage of synthetic methane are scrutinized next. A substantial part of the book addresses construction of vehicles for natural and synthetic methane as well as large engines for industrial and maritime use. The last chapters present some perspectives on further uses of renewable liquid fuels as well as natural gas for industrial engines and gas power plants.
