Nazim Hikmet: Dramaturgy. Aesthetic and Ideological Influences
Details
In addition to being a well-known poet, Hikmet was also a playwright, screenwriter, novelist and columnist. Although not widely known as a playwright, he left a significant theatrical heritage. Apart from writing a large number of plays, Hikmet was himself a director and a member of various troupes. In many cases, he attended rehearsals of his plays and directed them, while he attempted text adaptations to make them more contemporary and familiar to the audience. He was strongly influenced by the ideological and aesthetic perceptions of his time, creatively incorporating them into his work. As an artist he was committed to his ideology. He had a clear political stature and he contributed to the development of the art of theatre both in his own country and in other European countries. Therefore, the approach to Hikmet's theatrical works, as well as the study of his general relationship with both the theatre and important personalities in the field, is of particular interest.
