How does gendered organizational life impact on individuals' identities in their everyday working lives? This question is explored with theoretical insights from disciplines including Sociology, Geography, History and Gender Studies interwoven with a major new empirical study of doctors and nurses working in the British National Health Service.

SUSAN HALFORD is Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Southampton, UK. Her current research explores the ways that new technologies reveal and disrupt the spatializations of working relations, specifically in health care. She is co-author, with Pauline Leonard, of Gender Power and Organisations and of Gender, Careers and Organisations.
PAULINE LEONARD is Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Southampton, UK. She is currently involved in research that explores the relationships between architectural design of office space and worker identity and motivation.
