Never Satisfied

This study focuses on the Turkish woman directors films of the late 1980s and early 1990s and also the feminist movement in Turkey that enabled woman directors to make woman themed films. The raise of educated women, individuality and sexual emancipation helped shaping the new educated urban women image in the 1980s Turkey. Different from their previous examples, those films including educated, individual and sexually emancipated women discredited the patriarchal norms about sexuality which is based on the satisfaction of the male by giving the women the chance of being satisfied. Through looking at how Turkish woman director's films represent the educated urban women and their male partners this study also sheds lights on the male hysteria related to sexual emancipation of women in Turkish films.

Selen Gokcem had her Bachelor's degree in American Culture and Literature from Ege University. She lectured English at Foreign Languages Department. Gokcem also had her MA in Film and Television Department at Kadir Has University as a full scholarship student and worked as a post graduate assistant in the Communication Department.
