New Approaches to Exploit Poultry Industry

In the modern feeding practices, feed additives have assumed a position of prime importance in poultry nutrition to meet the global requirements. They not only stimulate growth and improve feed conversion efficiency but meliorate the health of birds too by providing a physiological benefit beyond the provision of basic nutrients. Because of the growing concern over the transmission and proliferation of resistant bacteria via the food chain, the European Union (EU) in 2006 banned antibiotic growth promoters to be used as feed additives in poultry nutrition. Therefore, many non-therapeutic alternatives are being used that could help normal development of physiological functions so as to maximize the production performance of the bird.
