NIGERIA'S MULTIFACETED PROBLEMS AND THEIR SOLUTIONS

Nigeria, Africa's most populated country and largest economy, has suffered from persistent ethnic, religious, and political challenges since independence from the British in 1960. The country cannot live up to the expectations of being "Giant of Africa," due to its multi-faced problems. These problems include bad leadership, energy, corruption, unemployment, terrorism, poor infrastructure, religious crisis, health, education, environment, poverty, inequality, brain drain, national identity problems, intolerance, etc. Some of these so-called "Nigerian problems" are not only getting worse and deadly, they appear to defy solutions. As a result, Nigerians have become frustrated and disappointed over unfulfilled hopes of solving persistent challenges. This book consists of 16 chapters addressing the top 16 problems facing Nigeria at the moment and offers solutions to those problems. Written by 19 experts, this book is the most comprehensive study of the problems facing Nigeria. Our goal is to provide political leaders and general audience in Nigeria and allies abroad with the facts and insights on which to base policy decisions.

Matthew N. O. Sadiku received his B. Sc. degree in 1978 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, TN in 1982 and 1984 respectively. He is presently a Regents professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering at Prairie View A&M University.
