NIGERIANS AND THEIR HISTORY

This book is about Nigerian peoples and their history. History means different things to different people. The word 'history' has three levels of meaning. In the first place, it refers to the entire human past as it actually happened. History also refers to man's attempt to describe and interpret the past. Thus, Professor Baraclough defined History as "The attempt to discover on the basis of fragmentary evidence, the significant things about the past." Here, History is seen as an industry and comes closely to the Greek meaning of the word 'History' which is "Inquiry".
