Nitrification Inhibition Efficiency of Brachiaria humidicola

It was concluded that increased nitrogen uptake and nitrogen use efficiency in rice and wheat crops when applied with root extracts of B. humidicola specially 70 % alcohol extract was demonstrated. Such genetic capacity to suppress soil nitrification is a pre-requisite towards the development of crop genotypes having inherent capacity for reducing NO3--N losses and low-N2O emitting production systems for both economic and ecological sustenance.
