Analyses and examinations of under development in the late 70's and 80's began to offer different explanations to the causes of people's poverty and to suggest different forms of project design. Poor people were seen as excluded from broader societal participation and also from direct involvement in development initiatives. Development policy makers and planners began to devise strategies where poor people could become more directly involved in development efforts. The focus is increasingly on community participation in the development process to address the specific conditions and problems in their communities. However, despite the introduction of participatory approaches, nomadic pastoralists seem to lag behind. This book explains the extent to which drought, poverty, and education levels affect the participation of nomadic pastoralists in community development; The benefits accrued from pastoralists' participation in community development; the extent other development agencies influence Nomadic pastoralist participation in community development; it also suggets appropriate strategies of enhancing nomadic pastoralist participation in community development
