The debates about this topic are nowadays mostly not considered scientific, but ideological. Ideologies of racial supremacy that claim that the Nordic race, particularly the Germanic peoples, would constitute a master race because of an innate capacity for leadership are referred to as Nordic theory, Nordicism or Nordic thought. Those ideologies were prevalent mainly in the late-19th and early 20th centuries in Western Europe and North America. Nordic thought was a major influence on Nazism.
