This book has compiled information and facts about hospital-acquired infections, also known as 'Nosocomial Infections', which are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients, leading directly or indirectly to an enormous increase in the cost of hospital care and to the emergence of new health hazards for the community. These infections can be caused by any organisms but few organisms or pathogens can be particularly attributed for. Due to these infections, not only the costs but also the use of antibiotics gets increased with an extended hospitalization. Here lies and urgent need to understand the significance of Nosocomial infections, as a microbiologist or a medical faculty, and a further need to educate the healthcare workers and professionals about it.
