Notch Sensitivity

A Mechanical Engineer designs machine elements that are safe, durable and economical. Since machine elements are subjected to tensile, compressive, shear or combination of these loads, hence it is essential to analyze the element under these loads for safe design. It has been seen that strength of the bar is affected by change in cross-section, notch, surface roughness etc. The notch effect increases stress in an area of a component near a crack, or a change in section, such as a sharp angle. When a body has stress concentration in it, the chances of its failure increases. These days number of books on the subject is available but difficult to find book in which topic has been explained keeping practical feasibility in view. This book focuses on impact of V and U notches on tensile strength of circular bar. This book contains five chapters covering essential text. Each chapter logically represents the basic concepts and principles. Many illustrative diagrams are being provided to make text easy to understand. The book aims at being useful to students of mechanical and civil engineering diploma, degree, post graduate and Ph.D as also those who are working in design industry.
