Il est le seul club européen à avoir remporté plus de Ligue des Champions que de Championnat. Nottingham Forest évolue pour la saison 2009-2010 en Championship (deuxième division anglaise). Le 3 mai 2008, le club est remonté en Championship après avoir battu Yeovil Town FC 3 à 2. À l'issue de la saison 2008-2009, Nottingham termine 19ème, assurant son maintien en Championship. Avec l'objectif d'un retour en Premier League, un projet de nouveau stade a été mis en route afin de remplacer City Ground. Le nouveau stade d'une capacité de 50 000 places est prévu pour 2014.
