"Novocaine for Elderly Mind" is a short story by Din Asotic that describes the internal spiritual journey of Mr. Melvin Sajc, who after a near-death experience finds himself in a spiritual space that strongly resembles hell. There, he encounters family members and old friends, trying to uncover what exactly is happening. Throughout the journey, he is accompanied by a mysterious humanoid being that torments him but also shows him the way through the spiritual turmoil. The story aims to depict the conflicts of an ordinary man with those around him, as well as with himself, and to explore the concept of life after death and how our perception of it is largely conditioned by our physical life on Earth.

Din Asotic, born on July 17th, 2004, in the German city of Mülheim an der Ruhr, has been a Computer Science student at Ruhr University Bochum since 2023, and is also a writer of the short story "Novocaine for Elderly Mind" and other essays and narratives. His literary works have been recognized with awards from the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States Embassy. He attended elementary and high school in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2023, he resides once again in Mülheim an der Ruhr. His mother is from Montenegro and his father is from Serbia. He has a younger brother.
