Numerical and Analytical Modelling of ground movements in Lewes tunnel

This book presents Trenchless Technology as a non- disruptive method of Tunnel excavation. It covers the potential applications of pipe jacking Technique, required equipments, operation stages, and tunnel alignment. This book focuses on Lewes Tunnel which is regarded as a case study of Pipe Jacking Technology. The primary purpose of this book is to predict the ground settlement due to Tunnelling. This Publication illustrates the Empirical methods and Finite element methods to determine the ground movement. This publication emphasizes the importance of Mathematical modelling to apply the state - of - the art Computational tools in the Tunnel Project Engineering applications into a simple form so that a ground movement can be calculated in a reasonable time. This book applies rigorous mathematical modelling and computational techniques (ABAQUS Software ) to estimate ground movement . As a conclusion, this book provides a good understanding of Soil- Structure interaction and will be helpful for Tunnel designers,Geotechnical, Civil and Structural Engineers to predict the potential damage caused by Tunnels construction on existing infrastructures.

I earned MPhil in Tunnelling By the University of Exeter in 2007 . I hold BSc in Geotecnical Engineering, Syria.I have been working for the Syrian Railways for seven years as a Geotechnical Engineering. i have experience in Pipe Jacking Tunnels, Rock Mechanics and Repairing Bridges using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) Composites.
