Details

The majority of football players succumb to fatigue towards the end of the game. The predominant cause for this decrement in performance was ascribed to glycogen depletion. Rapid glycogen replenishment was shown to be twofold greater with protein added to a CHO supplement in the initial 40 minutes. The effect of CHO-P versus CHO ingestion during short-term recovery and subsequent performance is limited. The current experimental work was aimed to examine whether the addition of protein to a CHO beverage could improve subsequent endurance capacity towards the end of a simulated football match when compared to an isocaloric CHO beverage.
