Home ecology is a new subject in the Namibian curriculum and focuses on the family. Aims of the Home Ecology To enable students to achieve desirable quality of life for themselves, their families, their community and the future generations. To impart skills related to family life occupations that serve to enhance work of the family. To improve the quality of life through development of positive attitude and skills. By the end of the unit students should be able to: 1. Define and explain the concept of Home Ecology. 2. Explain the four themes in the Home ecology school syllabus. 3. Discuss the role of Home Ecology in sustainable development. Definition of Home Ecology "Ecology" originates from the Greek word meaning the study of homes. Home Ecology is the study of the interaction between people, families, households and environment.
