Nutrition Management of HIV/AIDS

Malnutrition and infection are invariably linked together each aggravating the other. Cell-mediated immunity, a function of the T-cells is markedly depressed by malnutrition. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS acts by destroying the T-cells which are actively involved in the defense of the body against viruses, fungi, parasites, bacteria and destruction of cancer cells. There is a need for HIV/AIDS infected persons to know and build a positive attitude towards dietary management of HIV/AIDS to prolong and improve their quality of lives. This book outlines the knowledge and attitudes towards the role of nutrition management of HIV/AIDS among the infected and affected.
