It commonly goes by the name OTMS and is hygroscopic. The formation of OTMS monolayers is used for generating homeotropic anchoring of a liquid crystal at a surface. OTMS forms a self-assembling monolayer by binding with hydroxyl groups at the surface of the material. Subsequent dipole-dipole interactions between mesogens and the OTMS molecules induce the homeotropic anchoring condition.
