It is found in Europe, ranging to Northern Ireland and Finland in the North and Russia in the East. The wingspan is 32 42 mm. The moths are on wing from March to May depending on the location. The larvae feed on Betula and Alnus species. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth, with thousands of species yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are crepuscular and diurnal species.
