Offering face

This book deals with the face, a subject absent from the social sciences. The reader will find clues on how to follow the neuro-turn that is influencing the sciences in the age of imaging, neuro-biology, nanotechnology and social networks. Consciousness first manifests itself in the face. The face, as well as being a form of expression and an instrument of perception, is an important and sensitive part of the body. It can treat internal or external stimuli with indifference or imaginatively, even inventing them. The face is the brain's front office and the beach where emotions are stored. The face is a biological clock, where life sculpts its wrinkles and signals virtues and tortures. The face mirrors the trust and love that binds several bodies into one. The face contorts when we are spiteful and vengeful. The face offers an excellent opportunity to apply criticism to social theories. Criticism that is dissatisfied with the discriminatory way in which social theories treat the excluded and the complicit way in which they help us hide from our shame. Pragmatic denunciation of the way sociology wrongly isolates itself from biology and ideology, from the human body and the need for orientation.
