OIL PALM IN BENIN

In order to meet economic and food needs, the population of Affamè District is engaged in the production, processing and marketing of palm oil. The present research studies the factors of production and marketing of palm oil in the Affamè district.The methodological approach adopted is based on data collection, investigations in real environment, data processing and analysis of results using the SWOT model.The results obtained show that the district of Affamè has soils, labor favorable to the production of palm oil. Moreover, there are two (02) processes of extraction of palm oil. The traditional (endogenous) process, which is in the process of disappearing, is practiced by 3% and the improved process is practiced by 92%. Similarly, the households of retail sellers obtain a monthly profit that varies between 68,900 F CFA and 80,500 F CFA whatever the period of abundance or lean season. The palm oil sector is profitable and has enabled the people of Affamè district to meet their needs, cover their children's school fees, build houses and buy equipment. On the other hand, the lack of means and the inorganization of the sector hinder the production and marketing of palm oil. Faced with this situation, reinforcement measures have been proposed.
