Okra Gum

Mucoadhesive drug delivery systems are delivery systems which utilize the property of bioadhesion of certain polymers which become adhesive on hydration and hence can be used for targeting a drug to a particular region of the body for extended periods of time. Suitable polymers that can be used to form mucoadhesive systems include soluble and insoluble, non-biodegradable and biodegradable polymers. These can be hydrogels or thermo-plastics, homopolymeres, copolymers or blends, natural or synthetic polymers. In this book, the usage of Okra Gum, a natural mucoadhesive polymer, is discussed in detail.
