On the wings of the killer birds explores the struggles of three women to survive the ravages of the Nigeria /Biafra war. The novel captures the devastation of the entire south east region of Nigeria by the federal forces whom the locals nicknamed 'vandals'. Despite their losses and suffering, the women, (Rhoda, Uloaku and Njideka) survive the ravages of the war emerging triumphant like the mythical phoenix. The author has through this novel advanced the feminist discourse in Africa.

Echendu, Wuihe Wuihe Echendu is a versatile writer, critic, and teacher having published in the three genres. His first collection of plays The Debris and the Casualties appeared in 2005 followed by The Trial of Chief Okponku (2007). Wuihe has also written stories for children such as The Hunter and his Dog (2006), Emeka and the Armed Robbers (2020).
