OPHILOSOPHICAL INSIGHTS INTO PRESENT-DAY AFRICA

(...) Africans have not played their part in the historical process to which they lay claim. To contest this judgment of the history of our history is simply to refuse to take our responsibilities to play fully the role that is ours. "One thing is certain: our Africa is no longer the Africa of the last centuries. A new sun has risen, the air we breathe is not the same and the issues and concerns of yesterday have changed in nature. Our fulfilment will depend on our determination; our freedom will come from our decision; our will will make this Africa what we want it to be. For our part, we know our time without understanding it, we live it without grasping it, we are there without being present. In short, it is time that the speeches of claims cease to make way for the combined action of Africans in order to reopen the history books and rewrite the History of humanity with others.
