Optimizing Design and Operation of Water Distribution Systems
Details
In recent years, investment in water supply utilities has been increasing worldwide because of rapid urbanization and high population growth in developing countries and ageing of water supply systems in many cities of developed nations. More than half of this investment is estimated to be required for new construction, expansion, upgrading and operation of water distribution systems. Use of appropriate design and operational methods can help water utilities and governments save significant amount of cost. This book is all about that; it introduces optimization models which can assist water utilities to optimize their distribution systems and thus reduce capital investments and running costs. Three optimization techniques are used to develop the models: LP, GA, and the OBORM, a new, simple yet efficient, heuristic optimization method. Although application of LP and GA for water distribution system optimization is not new, the reader will find many new concepts and an in-depth overall discussion, which is not available in other literatures. Water utilities and researchers in the water supply industry will find this book useful.
