Oral and dental aspects of child abuse and neglect

Every child has the right to health and a life free from violence. Children maltreatment is an immense global problem with a serious impact on the child's physical and mental health, children may be exposed to different kinds of maltreatment and neglect that's evident in their oral and dental region. Among the health professionals, dentists are likely at the most favorable position to recognize child abuse and neglect as 50-75% of reported injuries involves the mouth region, the face and neck. So, the dentist and other child health professionals should help in prevention and detection of the neglect and maltreatment of children and protect them.
