Pain, Motion Sickness and Migraine
Details
Migraine is a common and disabling neurovascular
disorder. Symptoms of migraine resemble those of
motion sickness to which migraineurs are often
susceptible. Both maladies involve reflexes that
relay in brain stem nuclei. This book explores
whether brain stem disturbance persists subclinically
interictally in migraineurs. Migraineurs were exposed
to various sensory stimuli when headache-free.
Symptoms of migraine and vascular reactivity to
various stimuli were explored following exposure to
optokinetic stimulation and painful stimulation of
the head or limb. The impact of stress in relation
to the development of these responses was also
explored. Findings might help clarify mechanisms
that initiate migraine, and insights may assist the
development of approaches to reduce susceptibility to
recurring attacks. This book is essential reading
for medical practitioners, neurologists,
physiotherapists, chiropractors, nurses,
academics/students, neuroscientists, and pain
specialists, as well as migraineurs and interested
members of the public. This book will also be of
interest to pharmaceutical companies, as it will
provide insights with regards treating the disease
chemically.
