Painting in Continuity -A Focal on Vijayanagara gives a brief survey of Indian paintings starting from prehistoric times to the 18th century A.D. The paintings of Ajanta, Bagh, Chalukyas, Pallava, Pandya, Rashtrakuta, Chola, Vijayanagara,Nayaka, etc. are given to provide an idea to the reader. A detailed discussion of Vijayanagara paintings is undertaken. The technique in the composition of paintings, use of colours are dealt in comparison to other schools of art. Wherever possible the ancient texts are quoted to have holistic understanding. The material culture found in the paintings is discussed in detailed manner and line drawings are also given. Aesthetics of the paintings is well brought out.The work is loaded with necessary beautiful colour illustrations.
