Panathinaikos Athlitikos Omilos widely known both as Panathinaikos or PAO, is the biggest and the most popular Greek multisport club, based in Athens, Greece. Panathinaikos is the most successful Greek multisport club (24 different competitive departments over the years), as its teams and individual athletes have won 503 titles. In English the club's name would be Pan-Athenian Athletic Club, e.g. the club of all the Athenians. According to the official history of the club, Panathinaikos was founded by George Kalafatis in 1908, when he and 40 other athletes decided to break away from Panellinios Gymnastikos Syllogos following the club's refusal to form a football team. Legendary personalities from that era include Michalis Papazoglou, Michalis Rokos and Apostolos Nikolaidis.
