Paralinguistic Communication in Nigerian Languages
Details
The application of Nonverbal Communications in crime control and international business transactions is alien to so many societies. In many multi-lingual nations, the use of paralinguistic cues has been reported to enhance socio-economic, religious, cultural and political interactions. Nevertheless, in some others, these cues are novel or non-existent. An empirical overview of paralinguistic communications among the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa ethnicities of Nigeria was made on a comparative basis, with the aim of bringing the subject to the fore in the domain of language studies and orchestrating key concepts to popularize their applications in diverse contexts. The book is very rich, concise and targets persons resident in multi-lingual nations, undergraduate and postgraduate students of Language Studies, immigrants, embassies and researchers.
