This monograph focuses on the development of a
parameter identification technique for layered
systems on the basis of the spectral element method.
Forward and inverse models are introduced. The
forward model involves the simulation of wave
propagation in elastic, viscoelastic, porous and non-
homogeneous media. The inverse model involves the
utilization of three minimization techniques;
Factored secant update, Levenberg-Marquardt and
Powell hybrid.

Al-Khoury's qualifications include a Ph.D., Cum Laude, in Computational Mechanics from Delft University of Technology. The current research area is focusing more on computational geoenvironment, with an emphasis on geothermal energy and CO2 sequestration. Other research areas of interest are wave propagation and inverse problems.
