The club is currently competing in the French Championnat National. In an effort to relaunch pro-football in the city of Paris, Paris FC was founded in 1969. The objective of the club was to be playing first division football by 1970. An attempted merger with CS Sedan was refused so Paris went looking in the second division and finally merged with Stade St. Germain to create Paris Saint-Germain Football Club. Paris FC, as we know it today, came into being in 1972 when it split from Stade St. Germain, after coming under pressure from the Mayor s office which refused to support a non-Paris team.
