High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Parliament Hill is an area of the south-east corner of Hampstead Heath, an area of open parkland in north-west London. It is administered by the City of London Corporation together with the rest of Hampstead Heath. The Eastern (Highgate) side, including Parliament Hill Lido, is known as Parliament Hill Fields, and the area's girls' school, Parliament Hill School, is named after it. Once known as Traitors' Hill, it acquired its current name during the English Civil War when it was occupied by troops loyal to the English Parliament. The hill is not, as the name might suggest, home to the Houses of Parliament: they are located several miles south of the hill, in Westminster, though it does have a good view of them. Indeed, there is a legend that this hill was where Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby where planning to watch the destruction of parliament in the Gunpowder Plot of 5 November 1605.
