Paternal involvement in pregnancy and childbirth
Details
For a long time, psychoanalysis ignored the existence of an early bond between the father and his son, as well as how beneficial it can be in the emotional development of the baby from the beginning of life. At present, paternity constitutes a field in the process of study and reformulation. The present work aimed to find out if the paternal participation developed during pregnancy and birth has an impact on the level of contact that parents display with their newborn children in the hospital setting. The research was carried out between the months of March and June 2019 in a public hospital in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic. This research also inquired about the participation that parents wanted but were unable to have during the pregnancy and birth of their children. The interest in this topic arises from the need to incorporate the father in the perinatal psychological approach. Considering your unique experience during pregnancy, childbirth and initial approach to your baby, allows you to accommodate and accompany the parenting process, as well as giving the father back the leading role in an experience that is his own.
