Schools and parents are partners in healthy child
development outcomes. Until recently, research on
the fathers unique contributions in children s
schools had been limited. This is unfortunate as
father involvement has shown to generatively affect
child social, emotional and academic development. At
the same time, it has been documented that fathers
rarely participate in parent involvement groups.

This book uncovers three clustered themes: safety;
supportive relationships; and shared instructional
leadership, from five accessible, responsible and
engaged fathers that merit consideration and
discussion. The experiences revealed here are
starting places for researchers, educators and
parents interested in extending the present
understanding of involved fathers and child
development.
