Background: Health care sector in Nigeria has been regularly rocked by conflicts and strikes leading to significant disruption of healthcare services and limited care to patients. Evidence-based research like this is needed to articulate the rights of patients to care and that of the health care workers to strike, in order to assist patients to be aware of impending strike and cope with the situation. Many of the clients are unprepared for potential effects on access and quality of service delivery and may have to resort to private hospitals most of which are restricted in the scope of health service delivery. Conclusion: The good mean knowledge score of causes of strike reported in this study portrays a prominent role for patients in future strikes resolution and how clients can manage situations during an impending strike. Health workers strikes are preventable if stakeholders most especially Government or employers use the principle of fair and collective bargaining to address the various causes of strikes whenever they present.
